The basics

What is lip filler,
and how does it work?

At Skin Clinic Med Spa, expert lip filler in Riverside adds volume, shape and definition to the lips — without the overfilled look that gives filler a bad name. We build gradually and in proportion to your face, so the result reads as you, on a very good day.

Lip filler uses hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule your body already produces to hold moisture in the skin. Injected into the lip in small, careful amounts, it adds structure where you want it and draws in water for natural hydration. As a result, lips look fuller and feel softer — and because the product is soft and flexible, they still move and smile completely normally.

Every treatment is performed by licensed injectors under the medical direction of Dr. Syed W. Bokhari, MD. Want something even subtler? A Botox lip flip uses just a few units to roll the upper lip outward with no added volume — and we also offer full-face dermal fillers if you’re balancing more than the lips.

Natural Enhancement

Subtle Volume

A soft, undetectable boost that keeps your lip shape — the choice for most first-time patients.

0.5–1 syringe

Hydration & Texture

Skin Quality

Hyaluronic acid draws in moisture, softening fine lip lines and leaving lips smoother and plumper.

0.5 syringe

Lip Border Definition

Vermillion Border

Sharpens a blurred lip edge for definition and crisper lipstick wear — with little added volume.

0.5 syringe

Cupid’s Bow

Upper Lip Shape

Defines the peaks of the upper lip for a shapelier, more sculpted finish.

0.5 syringe

Russian Lip Technique

Vertical Lift

A vertical injection style that lifts height rather than projection — flatter from the side, fuller from the front.

1 syringe

Asymmetry Correction

Balance

Evens out lips that differ in size or shape, for balance you notice in every photo.

0.5–1 syringe

Downturned Corners

Oral Commissures

Lifts corners that turn down at rest, softening a permanently unhappy expression.

0.5 syringe

Perioral Lines

Lip Lines

Softens the fine vertical lines above the lip that deepen with age and sun exposure.

First-time patients

Start subtle,
build slowly

Nervous about looking overdone? Start with half a syringe. You'll get a soft, natural enhancement that most people won't identify as filler — and if you want more, we can always add at a follow-up. Filler is far easier to add than to remove.

  • Half-syringe option for a gentle introduction
  • Natural result that keeps your lip shape
  • Top up in 2–4 weeks if you'd like more
  • Fully reversible if you change your mind
The Russian technique

Height without
the projection

The Russian lip technique places filler vertically to lift the lip upward rather than pushing it forward. The result is more height and a defined cupid's bow from the front, while staying flatter in profile — ideal if you want shape without a projected look.

  • Adds height and definition, not forward projection
  • Emphasises the cupid's bow and lip peaks
  • Flatter, more natural side profile
  • Requires more precision — and more swelling initially
Reversible by design

Not happy?
We can dissolve it

One of the biggest advantages of hyaluronic acid lip filler is that it isn't permanent — in either direction. An enzyme called hyaluronidase dissolves it within days if you're unhappy with the result or in the rare event of a complication. We keep it on hand as a standard safety measure.

  • Fully reversible with hyaluronidase
  • Dissolving agent kept on site at all times
  • Corrects lumps, asymmetry or overfilling
  • A genuine medical safety standard

The treatment process
step by step

01

Consultation & lip mapping

We look at your lip proportions, the upper-to-lower ratio, and your natural shape — then agree on exactly how much volume, and where, to achieve the look you want.

02

Numbing & comfort

A strong topical numbing cream is applied for 15–20 minutes. Our lip fillers also contain lidocaine, so the area numbs further as we work.

03

Careful, layered injection

Using a fine needle or blunt-tipped cannula, your injector places small amounts in layers — checking symmetry in the mirror as we build. Takes about 15–20 minutes.

04

Massage, review & aftercare

We gently massage for a smooth, even result, review it with you, and send you home with ice and clear aftercare instructions.

What to expect

Lip filler swelling,
day by day

Day 1
Lips look full immediately but will swell — expect tenderness and a noticeably bigger look than the final result. This is normal.
Days 2–3
Peak swelling, often uneven. Try not to judge your lips yet. Ice helps, and any small bruises can be covered after 24 hours.
Days 4–7
Swelling drops away quickly and the lips begin to soften and settle into shape.
Week 2
Final result. The filler has fully integrated — this is the look you'll enjoy for the next 6–12 months.

Lips swell more than any other filler area. Book at least two weeks before a wedding, holiday or photoshoot.

for the best lips

Prep, about 1 week ahead
  • Avoid blood thinners, fish oil and vitamin E for 5–7 days (with your doctor's approval)

  • Avoid dental work or vaccinations within two weeks either side
  • Book at least two weeks before any big event

After your appointment

Aftercare, ~1 week
  • Ice in short intervals for the first 24–48 hours to ease swelling
  • Stay upright for 4–6 hours and sleep slightly elevated the first night
  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas and hot yoga for 24–48 hours
  • Avoid straws, smoking and pursing the lips for a few days
  • Hold off on lipstick and lip products for 24 hours
  • Call us immediately about severe pain, blanching or unusual colour change

Not sure which?

Lip filler or
a Botox lip flip?

If you want genuine volume, filler is the answer. If you simply want a little more upper lip to show — or you're softening a gummy smile — a Botox lip flip uses just a few units and no filler at all. Come in for a consultation and we'll tell you honestly which suits your lips, or whether combining both makes sense.

Lip filler at Skin Clinic Med Spa starts at $650 per syringe, and we offer a half syringe at $375 for a subtler result. Most patients need one syringe or less. You'll get an exact quote at your consultation before we begin. (Please confirm current pricing with our team.)

Lips are sensitive, but it's very manageable. We apply strong topical numbing for 15–20 minutes beforehand, and our filler contains lidocaine so the area numbs further as we work. Most patients describe pressure rather than pain.

Typically 6–12 months. Lips move constantly — talking, eating, smiling — so they break filler down faster than areas like the cheeks. Many patients top up once or twice a year.

A fair amount, and that's normal. Lips swell more than any other filler area, peaking around days two and three before settling. Your final result appears at about two weeks, so don't judge your lips before then.

Not with a careful injector. We build gradually and in proportion to your features, and we'd rather you return for a top-up than overfill in one sitting. If you want subtle, say so — we'll often recommend half a syringe.

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, usually within a few days. We keep it on hand as a standard safety measure, so you're never stuck with a result you dislike.

Filler adds actual volume to the lip. A Botox lip flip adds none — it simply relaxes the muscle so the upper lip rolls slightly outward, showing a little more lip. For example, filler suits thin lips; a flip suits someone who just wants a touch more upper lip or has a gummy smile.

At least two weeks. Swelling peaks in the first few days and the filler needs roughly two weeks to fully settle, so give yourself that buffer before a wedding, holiday or photos.

“I was terrified of looking overfilled after seeing friends' results elsewhere. Skin Clinic took it slow, checked the mirror with me constantly, and I'm obsessed with the shape.”

“Third time back for my lips. Numbing made it barely uncomfortable, swelling settled in about five days, and the shape is perfect. Honest pricing too.”
